Kathmandu, September 9, 2018: Rotaract Club of Patan in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Kist Medical College conducted a free Dental Screening Camp in Adarsha Kanya Niketan Mangalbazar, Lalitpur on September 7, 2018. As dental issues are one of the most common problems seen in all age groups, we targeted school children so that their problems can be addressed earliest possible.
The screening was done on 116 student out of which only 5-10 children had good oral health. Most of the students had decayed teeth, sediments due to irregular brushing and also weak gums because of sediments. It was observed that 80% of the children don’t brush regularly and the rest brush only 1 time a day. The doctors from Kist Medical College also suggested treatment plans to those whose cases had to be addressed immediately. The children were also provided a demonstration on how to brush our teeth properly and what causes dental caries. RAC Patan President Rtr.
Peshal said “We have found out that more than 80% of the students have dental problems related to tooth decay. This says a lot about not having proper dental hygiene and many people being unaware of effects of oral problems. We found out the problems today and now we will be working on how we can help those who need further treatment. We are planning to do this event in 27 other public schools in Lalitpur district so that more students can benefit from it.” The doctors from RAC Kist Medical College showed interest on how they can provide help from their side. They also said that they even found negligence in students themselves in proper cleaning of their teeth and treatment of decay.
RAC Patan has made a plan to conduct a follow up camp to provide further assistance to the students there. Adarsha Kanya is a community run school where only female students study and most of the students belong to lower economic backgrounds. They have been conducting similar projects time to time. They conducted an ENT checkup last year where more than 200 students were checked and 2 students who needed immediate surgery were provided treatment.
There were altogether 14 participants from host side out of which 10 were rotaractors.
