Friday public holiday as state honours to Former PM Thapa

Kathmandu, April 16, 2015: Former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa will be cremated with state honours on Friday.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to also announce a public holiday on Friday and to put the national flag on half mast across the country and in Nepali diplomatic missions abroad, according to Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Narayan Gopal Malego.

The former Prime Minister and the seniormost member of the Constituent Assembly died in course of treatment in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Likewise, the government has formed a four-member Coordination Committee under the convenorship of Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudyal in order to address the health problem seen in Jajarkot. The Secretaries at the Home, Health and Defense Ministries are members of the Committee.

The cabinet meeting today also decided to transfer Comptroller General Shanker Prasad Adhikari to the post of Secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation.The cabinet endorsed the participation of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Asian-African Summit and the 10th anniversary of New Asian-African Strategic Partnership or NAASP to be held in Indonesia.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Koirala will leave Kathmandu on April 20, leading an 11-member Nepali delegation to the event. RSS
