Gaatho announces painting competition

Pokhara, August 12, 2016: The producers of the forthcoming Nepali feature Gaatho have announced a nationwide painting competition with the theme Sambandha ko Gaatho. The announcement was made during an event held at The Art Gallery in Pokhara on Wednesday. The event featured, along with the film’s crew, veteran Nepali cartoonist and painter Durga Baral (Batsyayan), who will be judging the competition.

Speaking during the event, Baral hailed the film’s crew for taking initiative to organise a competition relating to art. “Today, we rarely see any painting competitions. That this competition has been organised by a film’s ensemble is a very humbling gesture,” he said, “Almost all of national level competition are centred in Kathmandu and now that this programme is going to be held from Pokhara is a very positive gesture.”

According to director Suraj Bhusal, the film revolves around the theme of painting and arts. “While shooting the film, we got a chance to learn a lot about painting, which motivated us to come up with a competition of this kind,” said Bhusal.

The competition is slated to be organised under three categories-school level, college level and an open competition. The first prize will feature a cash purse of Rs 50,000; second, 35,000; and third, 25,000. The winning entries will then be put on display at The Art Gallery in Pokhara.

Prior to this, the Gaatho ensemble had organised a nationwide video competition.

Directed by Suraj Bhusal and filmed under the banner of ButWall Entertainment, Gaatho features actors Naazir Hussein, Namrata Shrestha, and Abhay Baral, among others. The film is slated for release on September 16.
