Kathmandu, May 14, 2016: Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero is an initiation by Glocal Khabar (a concern of Glocal Pvt. Ltd.) to bring out the teenagers who are doing something from the shadows and create a ripple effect of motivation and impart a message that a lot can be done by anyone and also to appreciate and recognize the teenagers. It is a platform for teenagers to share their initiation, creativity and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other teenagers in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.

This is the second year of the first ever program designed in the country to recognize dedicated, passionate and innovative teenagers so as to encourage their initiatives. Bipana Sharma, a 17-year old child rights activist from Sunwal VDC in Nawalparasi had been felicitated with the First Glocal Teen Hero 2015 last year.

The competition for this year is to reach the teenagers nationwide to provide them the platform, for which the Glocal team accompanied by Teen Hero from last year and a jury member will be going to six destinations i.e. Pokhara, Chitwan, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, Birgunj and Janakpur apart from the Kathmandu Valley. The main objective of this initiative is to bring out teenagers from different parts of Nepal.

This year, Glocal has partnered with the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Wai Wai, B.P. Koirala India Nepal Foundation of Embassy of India, UNDP, Panchakanya Group, Coca-Cola, Hotel Soaltee, F1 Soft, Honda, Facts Research and Analytics.

“We initiated Teen Hero competition just to show that teenagers also have a lot of capacity and are doing significant things that can benefit the nation. Narottam Aryal, Executive Director of King’s College and one of the jury member in the competition said that he was really skeptical when Ashish approached him with the idea of conducting a teen hero championship to recognize the teens in Nepal who have made outstanding contributions to the society. “I had a lot of doubt if there are such teenagers out there doing great things. While we were judging the applicants, we were so amazed to see a pool of talented teens involved in a lot of activities with a lot of contribution and a lot of ambitions in their life.  Now, Glocal Teen Hero has been a platform for all the teenagers out there to showcase their talents.”

Samriddhi Rai, Singer/ artist, and the other jury member in the contest shared that she was amazed to see the level of competency of the applicants last year. “I was surprised to see teenagers like poets, documentary makers, app-developers child right activists and many others. This competition is a very special platform for teenagers for it includes talents from all the sectors out there. There are many platforms in other countries to recognize and showcase the talents of teenagers, which is totally lacking in Nepal. I thank Glocal for organizing such a programme providing platforms to the teenagers in the nation. This year, I look forward to see an even wider range of participants in the competition.”

Ruby Jaspreet Sharma, secretary at BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation of Indian Embassy said that the championship is going to benefit not only the winners but each of those teenagers who apply for the competition. “It is very surprising to see teenagers out there doing so much contributions to the society and we look forward to see how the journey of championship unfolds.”

Speaking amidst the program, Mr. Lal Babu Chaudhary, AGM, Chaudhary Group said that they are glad to be associated with Glocal Khabar as title sponsor of the contest. “We are glad to partner with Glocal Pvt. Ltd. to conduct Glocal Teen Hero and aspire to continue it for a long term. We have even decided this to incorporate this programme as part of our calendar. We take this as an opportunity to inform the general public that we are doing something from our part for social cause by supporting the teenagers.”

The other-members in the 5-member panel of jury consists of Mr. Anil Keshary Shah, CEO of Mega Bank, Saurav Jyoti, Director of Jyoti Group and Ambica Shrestha, President, Dwarica’s Hotels and Resorts.

Top 6 finalists will be shortlisted for the final round of the competition on the basis of initiation and the impact of their work and will be interviewed individually to measure their personality, domain knowledge and vision. It is a platform for Nepali Teenagers aged 13-19 years who are involved, initiators and achievers besides their school/college curriculum.
