Gorkha, October 4: Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Former Prime Minister and UCPN (Maoist) leader Â is all set to begin commercial goat farming at Khoplang in Gorkha, his home district.
He has formed a cooperative called the Deepesh Raju Memorial Agriculture Cooperative in partnership with the locals of Belbas, Khoplang-4 to finance the goat keeping venture. Bhattarai is the advisor and his daughter Manushi the chairperson of the cooperative.
The cooperative held its first General Meeting at Belbas, the village where Bhattarai was born, today, the UCPN (Maoist) stated. Twenty-nine Belbas locals are the members of the cooperative.
Inaugurating the cooperative, Dr Bhattarai said commercial livestock farming would not only improve the economic condition of the family but of the country as a whole. He stressed the need of modernizing agriculture.
The cooperative has taken 38 ropanis land on the hillside at Khoplang on lease for goat rearing. Grass has been sown on this patch of land.
