Buddha Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Baisakh of the Lunar calendar every year. This particular day has a great significance as it is not only the day Buddha was born but it also happens to be the day he was able to attain enlightenment and nirvana.

The 2564th Buddha Jayanti is being observed today, recalling the contribution of Siddhartha Gautam to the establishment of world peace. Buddhists from Nepal and other countries are celebrating Buddha Jayanti, wishing for peace and tranquility in the world.

Lumbini is one the most important place of Buddhist pilgrimage. Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini in 563 B C. The famous Maya Devi temple is situated at the place where Gautam Buddha was born.

Buddha Purnima is also known as `Vesak´ or `Buddha Jayanti´. Buddha Purnima is celebrated all over Indian and even in some South-East Asian countries including Nepal. This day holds an important place in the hearts of all Buddhists in the world. This day is celebrated by Buddhists across the globe with full fervour and joy.

According to the Vedic literature, Lord Buddha is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He appeared on this earth to teach the message of non-violence and mercy towards all living creatures.
