Palpa, Sept. 15: The teenage girls have begun attending school regularly after they were provided awareness on sexual and reproductive health and safe abortion through a discussion.
Youth Action Nepal, Nepal Family Planning Association, District Coalition of Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Rights jointly organized the orientation programme at district headquarters which evidently resulted in regular attendance of girl students at Laxmi Higher Secondary School at Bandipokhara in the district.
The discussion was held in an interactive atmosphere where the students shared their problems with friends and sought suggestions for solving problems, said a school teacher.
According to the school, the girl students are attending school regularly during the menstruation too. The awareness to the teenage students has also helped spread awareness on sexual and reproductive health among the community people.
Manager at NFPA Palpa Chapter, Shovakant Neupane, said the abortion for unwanted pregnancy could be done only at particular health institutes on certain period.
However, the District Health Office said due to the lack of proper health awareness, some women were secretly conducting abortion of over 12-week pregnancy keeping health/life at risk.
