Kathmandu, February 1, 2017:Â Himalaya Airlines, a Nepal-China joint-venture carrier, inducted second Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet on Tuesday.
The brand new aircraft, with registration number of 9N-ALV, was welcomed by a ceremonial water cannon salute after it touched down at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, arriving from Hamburg, Germany.
â€œWith the arrival of the second Airbus, the Himalaya Airlines team is highly inspired to work harder towards achieving excellence in our services,â€ said Vijay Shrestha, Vice Presidentâ€”Administration.
â€œIt enables us to bring new opportunities to connect Nepal directly with new destinations and contribute towards the economicÂ development of theÂ country,â€ he said.
â€œThe arrival of the second aircraft within its first year of operation is definitely a milestone for Himalaya Airlines as well as for the aviation industry.â€
The new A320 aircraft has 158 seatsâ€”eight business class and 150 economyâ€”in two class configuration.
Himalaya Airlines was established in August 2014. It started its scheduled flights operations from May last year flying directly to Doha, Qatar and to Colombo, Sri Lanka in October.
Himalaya Airlines has announced flying directly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 10 and Yangon, Myanmar on February 24.
In the upcoming months, the carrier plans to connect to Dammam, Delhi, Ahmadabad and ChennaiÂ in the first phase andÂ later to Dubai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing, Lhasa and Chengdu as well.
