Lumbini (Rupandehi), Sept 28: Nepali people coming home from India for Dashain festival are constantly facing harassment by the custom officials of Nepal and the Indian security persons at Nepal-India entry points.
They complained that the security persons and the custom officials were imposing charge on them in the name of customs charge.
Every evening and morning, the home comers’ bags and purses are frisked and rummaged and hassled unnecessarily at the border point.
A group of youths from Nuwakot and Dhading districts said they were imposed Rs 100 per person beyond the border and the same inside the border in the name of customs check.
“We are harassed by the Indian security persons as they demanded money at Gorakhpur, Nautanwa and Sunaili,” said Nil Magar from Baireni of Dhading district.
He further said the groups tried to escape the illegal imposition but could not. “We thought such fleecing was only beyond the border, but the employees inside our country also sought the money from us,” he shared plight.
Shiva Shrestha from Nuwakot said the employees rummaged their bags and questioned unnecessarily over even small gifts they brought for family members after foreign employment.
Meanwhile, the Rupandehi police have implemented a special security plan from September 17 in view of the festivals as Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
It has also set up a help desk at Belhiya following the mounting complaints by the Nepali people returning home from foreign job.
Despite the establishment of the desk, looting Nepalis at entry points is rampant.
Some 500 to 1,000 Nepalis are returning home daily from India through this entry point, said Police Inspector, Ram Babu Regmi at Area Police Office, Belhiya.
