Human skeleton found in forest

Kavre, March 27, 2016: A human skeleton was found in Panauti Municipality of Kavre district today.

According to Kavre District Police Office, the human skeleton was found in a community forest area near Chaukot of the municipality.

Murali Dhimal, a local of the municipality said an old man had found the human remains while he was in the jungle searching for medicinal herbs today morning. He said they had immediately informed police about the skeleton.

SP Rajesh Nath Bastola, of the DPO, said a police team deployed from the office had found a shirt, trousers and slippers, among other items, at the site.

He suspected that it was a youth’s skeleton and the deceased might have been murdered as there were blood stains on the shirt.

Investigation has revealed that the deceased was murdered some five months ago as the body parts were almost rotten. The skull, backbone and ribs of the body were separated, informed SP Bastola.

He said police were yet to ascertain who the skeleton belonged to and investigation into the case was under way. “We will investigate the files of missing people reported at the DPO in the last six months,” he added.

He said the skeleton was sent to Kathmandu-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for DNA test. Identity of the deceased can be established after the DNA test result is out, he said.
