Ilam,31 Dec 2014: A total of 221 cases of human rights violation were recorded in Ilam district in 2014.

The INSEC informed this in course of annual review.

According to INSEC representative Kokila Dhakal, 19 cases of rape,  nine cases of polygamy, four cases of murder, 67 cases of domestic violence, a case of kidnapping, two cases of human trafficking, 79 cases of suicide and nine cases of general strike were recorded in the district during the period.

At a programme presided over by the Vice-Chair of Human Rights Forum Nepal, Ilam, Bir Bahadur Khadka, Assistant Chief District Officer Sujan Phago suggested to move ahead by stopping anti-political culture like general strikes and shutdown.

Similarly, Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupam Shumsher JB Rana, Chairman of Lecturers’ Association JB Lungeli, lawyer Tika Bhardwaj, among others expressed the view that cases of human rights violation would decrease if strong action against those involved in heinous crimes like murder and rape is taken.
