Ilam to Organize a Tourism Festival


Kathmandu, December 5, 2018: Ilam is going to organize a tourism festival called Mechi Area Tourism Festival Ilam- 2018 to promote the overall tourism in Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung districts of Province 1.The event is scheduled from December 20 to 31. The promoters for the event are Province 1 government, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forests and Environment, Nepal Tourism Board, and the Mechi Mountain Area Tourism Promotion Committee.

Ilam Tourism Promotion Committee, the organizer, mentioned that the main goal to organize this tourism festival is to promote the four mentioned districts as the tourism destinations and to improve the livelihood of locals.

In the event, around 150 business stalls will be placed, showcasing the agro-products, handicrafts and other local goods produced in the four districts. The cultural presentations depicting the ethnic culture will also be the highlight of the festival. The estimated cost of the festival is Rs 5 million where more than 50,000 people are expected to be turned out.
