Kathmandu, 16 July, 2015 :Â Promulgation of the new constitution without carving out the federal units was impossible saidÂ General Secretary of Nepali Congress and Chairperson of the CA Constitution Drafting Committee, Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
At a discussion organized by Nepal Press Union on the draft constitution, General Secretary Sitaula said the creation of provinces was important also for holding the election to the president, vice-president and the national assembly. He also said that there would not any compromise on press freedom and citizen’s access to information. If there were weaknesses on these points, correction was essential.
Any weakness in the article of the draft constitution will be corrected until the last day of passage of the bill related to the constitution.
Environment of getting new constitution was ensured now that the draft constitution has reached to the people with rigorous struggle and discussions, the political parties have adopted the multi-party system, saidÂ Central member of the Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa.
Commissioner at the National Information Commission, Kiran Pokhrel, said while demanding the press freedom, one should not forget peoples’ rights to information.
Limiting press freedom was unacceptable, and the Press Union could furnish suggestions on other issues of the new constitution, saidÂ Former Chairman of Nepal Press Union, and Chairman of the National News Agency (RSS), Kul Chandra Wagle.
Shrinking press freedom was the violation of democratic values, saidÂ Former Chairman of the Federation of the Nepali Journalists, Taranath Dahal.
