Kathmandu, December 18, 2016:Â Indian shuttlers claimed four gold medals in the Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Badminton Series here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.
India won menâ€™s singles, mixed doubles, menâ€™s doubles and womenâ€™s doubles out of the five events, while Vietnam bagged womenâ€™s singles title. Nepal had fielded 22 players in five events but no one could reach the semi-finals.
Abhishek Yelegar defeated fellow Indian shuttler Siddharath Thakur 21-16, 21-14 in menâ€™s singles final, while Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh beat Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan 14-21, 21-19, 21-19 in the all-India mixed doubles final.
Likewise, Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvisha S Ram outplayed Anoushka Parikh and Harika Veludurthi 21-16, 21-12 in all-India womenâ€™s doubles final, while Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok of India defeated Pakistani pair of Rizwan Azam and Sulehri Kashif Ali 21-18 21-15 to win the menâ€™s doubles title. Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam beat Indonesiaâ€™s Devi Yunita Indah Sari 21-17, 21-16 womenâ€™s singles final.
A total of 72 players from nine countries took part in the five-day tournament organised by Nepal Badminton Association.
