Kathmandu, 3 April, 2015 : Visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Dr S Jaishankar called on Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at the PM Office Singh Durbar this afternoon. Secretary Jaishankar is here on a two-day official visit.

During the meeting, matters relating to bilateral relations and mutual benefits and current political developments were discussed.

India is committed to strengthen her multifaceted and mutually beneficial relationship with Nepal as part of her “Neighborhood First” policy, PM’s Foreign Affairs advisor Dr Dinesh Bhattarai quoted Secretary Dr S Jaishankar as saying.

Dr Bhattarai said that during the meeting they discussed the progress on implementation of projects of mutual benefits and bilateral agreements signed during the first visit to Nepal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They further discussed on further extending bilateral relations in the changed context too.

On the occasion, PM Koirala assured security to development projects as the construction work of the agreed projects should be intensified.
According to advisor Bhattarai, PM Koirala added that Nepal was committed to attracting more Indian investment as recently held power development agreement (PDA) and power trade agreement (PTA) have created investment-friendly environment in the country.

Secretary S Jaishankar shared that his visit was also aimed at gaining information about the SAARC member countries as he was recently assigned as the foreign secretary of India, said PM’s advisor Bhattarai.

On the occasion, Secretary S Jaishankar on the behalf of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi re-invited PM Koirala for India visit and shared the Indian PM’s best wishes, friendship and welfare to PM Koirala.

Also present on the occasion were Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs acting secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, Joint Secretary Prakash Kumar Subedi, Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae and high-placed officials of Indian Embassy here.
