Industry minister stresses on use of domestic product

Kathmandu, 10 April, 2015 : Minister for Industry Mahesh Basnet has pledged to come up with revised acts and directives necessary for the promotion of ‘Made in Nepal’ products.

Taking to media after the inauguration of the 5th ‘Made in Nepal Expo’ organised by Youth Entrepreneurs Forum at local Bhrikutimandap Friday, the Industry Ministry said there was lack of programmes and policies aimed at promoting the use of homemade products. Although domestic products somehow cost more, its use should be our first priority, he stressed.

Desires of Nepali youths shall never be ignored by the state, he said, adding that the state failure to enforce the concept of liberalization and privatization led to the closure of some industries.

Expo coordinator Sudarshan Basnet expected for support and cooperation from all sides to make the event successful. The four-day expo has showcased 120 stalls of varieties of homemade products including handicraft items, leather products, decorating items, garments wear and daily consuming goods. It is expected to be visited by around 35,000 people.
