Information ministry discusses expansion of Wi-Fi technology

Kathmandu, September 26, 2017: Deliberations were held in the capital on Monday on the topic of extension of the transmission technology services in Nepal.

Representatives of various corporations including Nepal Television, Radio Nepal, Gorkhapatra Corporation, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (National News Agency) and Nepal Telecom participated in the discussions organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

One can access television, radio and newspapers with this technology by using ‘My Player’ through Wi-Fi. This service could be best utilized in the remote areas especially during disasters.

Service Sound and Vision has been providing this service in various countries.

Information and Communications Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet on the occasion said Nepal could also subscribe to the service in the coming days after carrying out further study on this. He added that the Wi-Fi technology would be highly useful at times of disasters in Nepal.

Managing Editor of BFBS Gorkha Radio presented a workng paper on the transmission technology and its extension.
