Kathmandu, Oct 13: Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has said the international community was positive on Nepal after the second Constituent Assembly. It would help create positive effects on Nepal’s development, he added. Talking to media persons upon his arrival at home after the participation in the annual meeting of the World Bank on Monday, Finance Minister Dr Mahat said, “Nepal would get huge assistance in the sectors of energy and infrastructure which would evidently help boost economic development.”

The Minister argued that the recent power trade agreement (PTA), and project development agreement (PDA) with India on Upper Karnali Hydropower project have encouraged the international community to invest in energy in Nepal. According to him, there was growing possibility of the mobilization of the fund of some Rs 600 billion under the World Bank Groups. So, Nepal would get soft loan of one billion rupees under the project of infrastructure development within three years in addition to Rs 600 billion.

In course of the participation in the meeting, Minister Mahat had discussion with the US Assistance Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Assistance Secretary for Finance. He was also a key note speaker at a programme the World Bank organized on renewable energy. Minister Dr Mahat said, “It was not just a formal annual meeting of the World Bank, as there was special discussion, and interests by the US ministers on PTA and PDA.”
