Kathmandu, October 22: International Youth Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation began in the capital city, Kathmandu from Monday (21st to 23rd October 2019). The three-day conference is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and National Youth Council (NYC). Around 300 young scientists from 20 different countries are participating in the conference under the theme- “Research and Innovation for Prosperity.” Spokeperson for Nepal Academy of Science and Technology Mr. Suresh Kumar Dhungel said young Nepali scientists, living in and outside the country involved in science, technology and the innovation sector will exchange their knowledge, experience and skills during the conference.
The Conference is the first of its kind in Nepal and is the premier forum for the presentation of new advances and research results, policies and review papers on STI of Nepal. This conference is a prestigious event, organized to provide an international platform for the planners and policymakers, academicians, researchers, managers, industrialists, and students to share their research findings with global experts, especially among Nepali Diaspora.
Basically, the conference aims to connect Nepali youth working in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) with the Nepali Diaspora proficiently engaged in the same field around the globe. The resolution of the conference is expected to provide a concrete road map with sector-wise prioritization for mainstreaming STI in the National Development System.
This conference has a major objective to pave the way to congregate Nepali Scientists from within the country as well as diaspora and absorb their specific knowledge, skills, and experiences to motivate the young minds in Nepal. It is expected to provide direction to formulate and transform policies into practices being youth-centric for the science and technology advancement, which ultimately contributes in the sustainable development. It is also has invited international prominent scientists and technologists to invest in knowledge and skills enhancement in Nepal and to establish a broad scientific network, and science diplomacy. The Topics of the conference are Health and Medicine, Water and Energy, Food and Agriculture, Transport and Tourism, Information and Communication Technology, Forest and Environment, Disaster Risk Reduction, Indigenous Knowledge and Technology, Fundamental Sciences, Applied Sciences, Emerging Technology, Clean and Green Sciences, Economics and Management, Policy, and Philosophy and so on.
