JAPAN PROVIDES GRANT FOR SCHOOL SECTOR REFORM

Kathmandu, Sept. 23: The government of Japan is to provide a grant of Rs. 270 million to Nepal for the school sector reform programme.

An agreement to this effect was signed at the Ministry of Finance by Japanese ambassador to Nepal Masashi Ogawa and Finance Secretary Suman Prasad Sharma.

The amount will be made available through JICA and will be spent in primary school management, improvement of educational standards and class rooms for nine thousand primary schools.

The grant was provided to aid the government’s free education programme in primary level, said Ambassador Ogawa.Earlier, Japan had provided assistance for increasing literacy in Nepal in 2009.
