Kathmandu, September 14, 2018: Nepal Communitere, in partnership with Rural Development Initiative (RDI) and Global Innovation Gathering (GIG), is organizing the second installment of Kathmandu Mini Maker Faire (KMMF) on September 22-23, 2018. The KMMF will bring together makers and innovators from Nepal and abroad, and will highlight the kind of innovation in Nepal. The theme for KMMF 2018 is DESIGN FUTURE which primarily focuses on Health, Education and Environment but also welcomes all makers in different sectors. The Kathmandu Mini Maker Faire will convene entrepreneurs, makers, business people, as well as members of international and national non governmental organizations and government agencies. The event will celebrate the Maker Movement – a movement that brings together tech innovators, tinkerers, and artisans – and showcase an array of new technologies and innovative projects that promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning. Events and exhibits will include exhibitors, speakers, panel discussions, workshops on small, low-cost computers such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino, a virtual reality booth, drone flying, 3D printing workshops, and traditional crafting.

KMMF will provide incubation grants of up to 2 lakhs for each team of makers showing innovative approaches to Health, Education and Environment challenges. KMMF will encourage novel application of technologies, explore cross sector intersections between traditionally functioning domains..The KMMF will showcase opportunities to leverage the Local Makers and DIY (Do-it-Yourself) movement, with a unique focus on humanitarian and other needs-based innovation, to develop making culture in Nepal.
