October 15: Kesha and Dr. Luke, who the singerâ€™s worked with since 2005, filed complaints against each other Tuesday. Hers accuses Dr. Luke of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse; his accuses Kesha of defamation and repudiation of their recording agreement.
In Keshaâ€™sÂ complaint, sheÂ claims Dr. Luke â€œsexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally abused [her] to the point where [she] nearly lost her life.â€ The complaint lists examples of the abuse, including a time when Dr. Luke gave Kesha what he called â€œsober pillsâ€ that turned out to be a date rape drug. After taking the pills, Kesha claims she woke up the next morning naked in his bed.
According to the complaint, Kesha never discussedÂ these incidents because Dr. Luke threatened her, telling her he would â€œshut her career downâ€ and â€œdestroy not only her life but her entire familyâ€™s lives as wellâ€ if she told anyone about the abuse. The complaint also mentions Keshaâ€™s early 2014 stay in rehab, where doctors told her she â€œsuffered from psychological effects caused by Dr. Lukeâ€™s abuse, including severe depression, post-traumatic stress, social isolation, and panic attacks.â€
Kesha is asking to void any contracts she currently has with Dr. Luke so she can move on to other contracts without â€œinterference or harassment from [him].â€
In Dr. Lukeâ€™s complaint, the producerÂ claims Kesha has â€œrefused to comply with her ongoing obligations to deliver sound recordings to [Dr. Luke], or to allow [Dr. Luke] to produce her work.â€ The complaint also calls Keshaâ€™s claims of abuse â€œa campaign of publishing false and shocking accusations against [Dr. Luke] to extort Plaintiffs into letting Keshaâ€ out of the recording agreement.
He says that, because of these accusations, heâ€™s â€œsuffered special damages to his reputation, and to his existing and potential business relationships with other artists and record labels.â€ The complaint concludes with a request for damages.
