Khotang, Aug. 13: A technician of a micro hydropower project was buried to death in Khotang district due to a landslide caused by heavy rainfall.
Ashta Kumar Rai, 36, of Phedi VDC-5 Rai was a technician in Panchami Chhamuwakhola Micro hydropower Project buried in a landslip on Tuesday night.
Likewise, Prabin Rai, 29, a worker in the powerhouse of the hydel project was injured, police said.
The hydel project with 39 kilowatts run for the last three years was completely destroyed in the landslide.
Similaryl, eight families have been displaced due to the landslide.
Chief District Officer Govinda Sapkota said that a joint team of Nepal Army and police personnel has been deployed for the rescue to the victims. The site lies some one-day trek from the district headquarters, Diktel.
Local Dhan Kumar Rai said that wards no. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9 of the Phedi VDC were badly affected from the landslide.
In the same way, the canal of Nokti Tapkhola Micro Hydropower Project at ward no. 3 in the same VDC was also swept away.
