Last rites of late musician Gurung after 3 pm today

Kathmandu, June 7, 2016: The father of Nepali Modern music and a great magician Amber Gurung’s body is to be taken out at 10:00 am for the tribute ceremony which is set to take place in Nepal Academy, Kamaladi from Dhapasi-based Grande Interntional Hospital on Tuesday.

Acoording to the Lama of Balaju Monastery, Gurung’s body will be be taken to Pashupati Aaryaghat, at 3 pm for the last rites. Before that a funeral procession of musician will held starting from Nepal Academy.

Amber Gurung, the legendary musician and the composer of Nepal’s National anthem, had passed away  at the Grande International Hospital, in Dhapasi, in early hours on Tuesday.

Gurung had composed, along with the National Anthem Sayaun Thunga Fulka Hami, more than a 1,000 songs, including the era-defining numbers Nau Lakhe Tara and Rato Ra Chandra Surya. Gurung was also a lyricist and singer. Born (in 1938) and raised in Darjeeling, India, Gurung also authored three books of lyrics and memoirs–Samaalera Raakha (1969), Akcharkaa Awajharu (2003), and an anthology of essays and memoirs, Kahaa Gae Ti Dinharu(2006).
