Lax Adherence To The Directive For Banning Use Of Plastic Bags

Kathmandu,16 Feb 2015: As the Home Ministry Spokesperson Balbhadra Giri was apprising journalists of a directive issued to ban use of plastic bags, at the fortnightly news conference held at the Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday, a journalist held up a plastic bag that had been used to pack lunch meant for the same programme.

“If the ban is in effect, how has this plastic bag entered the premises of Singh Durbar through the security,” the journalist pointed out.

It may be noted that the Home Ministry had issued directives six months ago to its subordinate bodies to discourage its employees from using plastic bags.

In response, Spokesperson Giri claimed that the instruction had been given to all 75 district offices under the security mechanism. He also said that the security personnel on duty would be interrogated over the slip that took place today.
