Library Day-2016 to be celebrated for a week

Kathmandu, August 23, 2016: The Ministry of Education is celebrating the ninth Library Day this year for a week with the slogan ‘Library for lifelong education’.

According to the Department of Education, the ninth Library Day will be celebrated from August 25 to August 31.

A ministerial level decision of July 22 said that an organising committee under the chairmanship of the Education Secretary will be formed to celebrate the day in Kathmandu, where the education minister will be the chief guest.

Similarly, a district-level Library Day Celebration Committee under the coordination of District Education Officer will be made in all 75 districts to conduct various programmes.

The DoE also said that the district committees, in coordination with educational institutions in districts and organisations related to reading such as Room-to-Read, will be organising various programmes such as essay writing competitions, quiz contests, rallies, march pasts, and many other activities.

“It is very essential to develop a reading culture in the country, which is why we plan to celebrate the day in grand way,” the DoE said.

A secretary level decision of August 12 has already sent a circular urging all DAOs under the Ministry of Home Affairs, all DDC under the Ministry for Federal Affairs and Local Development, and all DEOs and Regional Education Directorate under the MoE to support the government.
