Literary evening at RS Moto

Kathmandu, May 13, 2016: Two of Safu Publications’ recent literary endeavours—These Fine Lines: Poems of Restraint and Abandon, an anthology of poems by Nepali female poets, and the sixth volume of La.Lit, New Fiction from Nepal—are slated to be launched at 6 pm on Saturday at RS Moto, Gahanapokhari in the Capital. The event will include poem readings by poets featured in the anthology, a talk by writer Manjushree Thapa, and live music by Shreeti Pradhan.

La.Lit is a literary magazine that celebrates the beauty of writing.

The 19 short stories in Volume 6 include commissioned fiction and a selection of entries from the Writing Nepal contest held in 2015. Combined, they represent some of the best new fiction written in English by Nepali writers.

These Fine Lines is a collection of poems written by Nepali women. The poems come from a place of wonder, remorse, loss, dissent, and desire. They are unapologetically personal yet unexpectedly universal in their essence.Edited by Itisha Giri and put together by Word Warriors, a spoken word poetry group, the anthology presents an intimate insight into the Nepali female experience. The poems float across the spectrum of restraint and abandon: the idea of restraint or control is explored through internal struggles at reconciling our bodies with our minds, while the idea of imposed restraint is explored through challenging the patriarchal nature of our society. The poetry anthology is also a part of the Write to Speak campaign, which aims to bring out voices that have traditionally been marginalised in our society.
