Kathmandu, Sept 17: Supply of LPG or cooking gas has been running short in Rautahat, especially in municipalities and market like Chandrapur, Gaur and Garud, forcing locals to opt for firewood since the past two weeks.

The district has around 100 gas dealers stationed in the district, catering to around 10,000 customers.

Every dealer had been selling five to 20 gas cylinders on average a day. But due to the short supply, locals visiting a dealer have been returning empty handed, said Niraj Ale, of the dealers in the area.

Tika Ghimire, the secretary of Consumer Rights Forum, Rautahat said that it has been difficult to gauge the number of cylinders required in the district and distribute likewise since the gas dealers are not using the ‘Consumer Card’ issued by Nepal Oil Corporation to ease off the cylinder distribution.

Locals grieve that the some dealers are charging them higher price than the usual one, citing the shortage on the onset of the festivals.
