Lumbini, February 8, 2018: Lumbini Peace Marathon and Adventure Sports Nepal are set to organize the fourth edition of the Lumbini Peace Marathon on March 1, 2018. This is the first spiritual thematic sports event in the world.
According to Himalayan News Service, the marathon will start at Kudan and conclude at Lumbini Peace Garden. Similarly, the half marathon will begin from Dohani and 5km race will kick off from Maya Devi Garden. According to Bikram Pandey, Lumbini Peace Marathon’s President, the event features 5km race, half marathon and full marathon.
Shikhar Pandey , the event manager said that around 200 runners from Nepal and other countries are expected to take part in the open category event. Pandey declared that this event is being organized for promoting Lumbini as the ultimate tourist destination for all Buddhist followers.
The full marathon winner will get Lumbini Ashoka prize worth Rs 1,00,000. The second finisher will take home Kapilvastu Xuanzang prize worth Rs 75,000 and third finisher will be awarded Mayadevi Garden Uthant prize of Rs 50,000. Similarly, the top three finishers in half marathon will gain Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The winners of the 5 kilometers race will be granted with gift hampers.
Lumbini Peace Marathon brings new meaning to the long forgotten heritage sites such as Niglihawa and Arorakot that are an integral part of Buddhism. Its primary target, after sports, is to promote the local sites and its importance not only in terms of Buddhism but also in terms of its history.
