Mahila Premier League enters Week 4, Real Madrid tops the table

Kathmandu, April 10, 2017: Week four of the Mahila Premier League (MPL) started with a bang, with an outstanding overall number of 52 goals scored by women in week 4, exceeding the tally of 46 goals of week 3. The total number of goals for the league has gone up to an impressive 178 goals over four weeks.

At the end of week 4 team Real Madrid followed suit with their Spanish namesakes in topping the table and slowly starting to look ahead to the title of being Nepal’s first Mahila premier league winners. But they will have to keep looking over their shoulder with team GoSports remaining in their jet stream. Team Kumari rose to third position defeating the team CloudFactory.

Team Real Madrid and team GoSports both have massive goal differences, and fans predicted a scoring festival on both sides, despite concerns from GoSports because some key players were unable to play. Real Madrid did not want there to be any doubt regarding their title aspirations and hit the ground running straight from the opening minute. Manda scored the opening goal for team Real Madrid with an amazing assist from Nirmala, with a boost in the team’s morale Real Madrid began their scoring spree, with the team’s captain Pramila scoring 6 goals and Nirmala scoring 5 goals.

The slightly decimated team GoSports Nepal had a hard time with team Real Madrid’s solid teamwork. The ankle injury of the up-and-coming Preety Rai from team GoSports Nepal, recognized for her amazing dribbling skills in previous matches, only further added to the woes of the team. The Mahila version of El classico therefore ended in a strong dominance of Real Madrid in terms of possession and goals, with them scoring 12 and managing to keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, team Kumari set the record of highest number of goals in a game, winning 28 to 0 from team cloud factory, with their star player Manisha Thapa scoring 11 goals alone and reconfirming she is ready to fight the top scorers of Real Madrid and Gosports for the golden boot. Further down the table, team ABC Girls won 3-1 against team Apex Girls in an exciting game that for most of its duration could have gone either way. Team Leeyash was looking forward to extending their recent form with another win but were denied by the outstanding Goal Diggers goalie. In an entertaining mid table derby team Goal Diggers beat team Leeyash in the end 5-3.

The ambience of MPL has been great, with friends, fans and families coming every week in growing numbers to support the teams and enjoy the activities surrounding the games, like information stalls and face painting.

The tournament will have a mid-league break where all teams can get some well-deserved time to rest and celebrate the Nepali new year. The league will carry on from April 22, Saturday at Grassroots Recreational Center, Mandikatar from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

The Mahila Premier league is supported by The European Union in Nepal, HamroKitchen.com, The Last Resort and Grassroots Recreational Center.
