Maiden win for Nepal in blind cricket

KATHMANDU, Oct 26: The Nepali women´s blind cricket team recorded a convincing 167-run victory over its United Kingdom counterparts during the first match of their three-match friendly series at the Pukchowk Engineering College´s cricket ground on Sunday.

The tournament is claimed to be the world´s first series among the blind women´s cricket teams.

Losing the toss and invited to bat first, Nepal posted a challenging target of 249 runs against the UK, losing two wickets in its allotted 20 overs. Neema BC scored the highest 72 runs for Nepal while Om Maya Pun and Sarita Ghimire contributed 41 runs and 30 runs respectively.

Louis and Elyse picked up one wicket each for the UK.

In response, the UK could only manage 79 runs for the loss of eight wickets in twenty overs.

Louis contributed the highest runs scoring 17. Elyse scored 15 runs while Teressa scored 11.

Bhagwati Amgain picked up the highest four wickets for Nepal while Bhagwati Bhattarai took two. Sarita Ghimire and Om Maya Pun claimed one wicket each.

Bhagwati was adjudged the player-of-the-match for her magnificent bowling. She received the award from Sekh Chandtara, president of National Women´s Commission. The second match is scheduled for Monday.
