March Held To Mark 16-Day Campaign On Violence Against Women

Kathmandu, Dec 6,2014: Various women’s rights organizations here today marched in unison as a part of the 16-day campaign to minimise violence against women.

The march jointly organized by the Women’s Rights Forum- Nepal, the Women Unity Society and Action Aid started from Gyaneshwar and passed through Kamalpokhari, Putalisadak, Bhadrakali, Sundhara and ended up with a corner meeting in Ratnapark.

After the march, it is said that the passersby and onlookers women shall be asked to express their understanding about the violence against women and concept of safe city into pictures which will be out in display in the road, informed the organizers of the today’s march.

The participants in the march have demanded the attention of the authority concerned to put an end towards various kinds of violence against women as murder, rape, expulsion from home in the name of dowry that are reportedly increasing in the country since the campaign.

The youth participants of the march opined that the violence against women in public places, including in the transportation, have been on rise due to the influence of rapid urbanization.

Activist Prasun Rai opined that the violence against women in the public transport is occurring because of overcrowding in vehicle.
