Market in Udayapur opens in defiance of agitation

Gaighat (Udayapur), Sept 24: Having remained closed for past 38 days due to the banda or shut down called by various groups, the market in different parts of Udayapru district including the district headquarters, Gaighat, remained open today.

The move to open the market follows announcement by the Triyuga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Gaighat urging the local traders to defy the protest and open the market.

Krishna Bhandari, secretary of the CCI said that traders, industrialists and commoners were affected due to the banda and that they would continue to defy any such strike in the days to come.

The District Police Office said that police are ready to provide security to the traders if need be.

Transport resumes in Bardiya

Meanwhile, transport entrepreneurs in the western Tarai district Bardiya, from Tuesday evening, resumed transportation in the district headquarters, Gulariya, in defiance of the banda. The transportation halted for around one and a half months due to an agitation by various groups.

A statement issued by the entrepreneurs said that the District Administration Office failed to resume transportation and as a result of the stir, they had to bear a heavy loss worth around Rs 60 million so far.

Vehicles going off from Gulariya to different places of the country and Bardiya resumed plying.
