MINISTER DR MAHAT SUGGESTS ESTABLISHING VEHICLE INDUSTRY

Kathmandu, Sept 3: Inaugurating the five-day long vehicle exhibition and trade fair organized by Nepal Automobiles Dealers Association (NADA) here Wednesday, Minister for Finance Dr Ram Sharan Mahat urged the entrepreneurs and vehicle trading companies to establish the vehicle manufacturing industries in the country.  Minister also urged automobile entrepreneurs to establish industry for producing vehicles domestically rather than only importing from outside. He suggested the Nepali vehicle traders to establish the vehicle assembling plant if establishing the manufacturing industries was not possible at the moment. Minister Dr Mahat said that the government would leave no stone unturned for providing necessary support for any such noble task.

One of the major sources of revenue was from importing of vehicles currently, Dr Mahat said presenting a data that the nation spends Rs. 40 for importing four wheelers and two wheelers annually. The import of private vehicles would go down once the public transport is made more qualitative and reliable, he added. Chairman of the NADA Shekhar Golchha demanded to maintain single customs rate at five percent against dual tax system while noting that private vehicle is out of reach of the middle-class people due to the dual taxing system.
