Kathmandu, Sept 14: Minister for Information and Communications Dr Minendra Rijal on Sunday returned home after participating in a ministerial meeting on Smart Digital Economy held in Darussalam, Brunei.

During the meeting, Minister Dr. Rijal held bilateral talks with Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT of Bangladesh Latif Siddique, Home Minister of Maldives Umar Naseer, Information Minister of Iran Dr Md Vaezi Joce and Vice Ministers of ICT from China and Korea. Minister Rijal on the occasion discussed issues related to bilateral interest and ways to further strengthening the mutual cooperation between Nepal and those countries.

The meeting was concluded by the identification of the six priority areas to work in the sector as ‘Conducive policy for sustainable growth of ICT and smart digital economy’, ‘Safe and secure society through ICT’, Infrastructure development’, ‘Sustainable ICT ecosystem for Innovations’, ‘Capacity building and Institutional development’, and ‘Fostering regional cooperation for ICT development’. These all are the areas needed to be worked on seriously for the development of telecommunication in Nepal. These all seems quite difficult to carry on but are not impossible.

The meeting organized by Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) was attended by 21 ministers and vice ministers from countries of the Asia Pacific Region.
