Kathmandu,28 Dec 2014: Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Neelam KC Khadka has committed to take initiatives towards making the new constitution disabled-friendly.

Addressing the concluding function of the 23rd International Day of People with Disabilities organised by the Ministry of Social Welfare and the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal here today, she vowed to effectively implement the Convention on the Rights of People with Disability.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry Shankar Prasad Pathak stressed the need for the government to bring a separate budget for the education and health of the people with disability.

On the occasion, advocates for the rights of the disabled called for bringing the Act on the Right of People with Disability and reviewing the National Policy and Action Plan Related to Disability to make it in harmony with the Convention.

Federation president Sudarshan Subedi pointed out the need of exerting positive pressure from all quarters for ensuring the rights if the disabled in the new constitution.
