Kathmandu, 3rd February, 2015 : Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has said that people should not be disappointed for not getting the new constitution on January 22 as the process of the constitution writing has already been forwarded.

Receiving a memorandum submitted by the Reporters’ Club Nepal at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar today, Prime Minister Koirala argued that there was no situation to be sad as the constitution writing process has been forwarded for the promulgation of new constitution even by going for the voting process.

Stating that the opposition parties have been obstructing the constitution writing process even if the ruling parties were ready for discussions adopting flexibility despite the formation of the Questionnaire Formulation Committee by the Constituent Assembly (CA), he said, “The country will not be allowed to remain in confusion for an indefinite period in the name of consensus. Consensus cannot be forged by issuing the threat of agitation.”

PM Koirala clarified that the new constitution would be promulgated even through the process as per the people’s aspiration even if the opposition parties refuse to come for talks.

He said that different parties including the UCPN (Maoist) have demanded scrapping of the Questionnaire Formulation Committee.

The Prime Minister said, “Who am I to scrap the committee formed by the CA?”

He further said that the problem surfaced after the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhesi Front did not follow the understanding though consensus was reached among them on the disputed issues except the federalism.

PM Koirala argued that now there was no meaning of agitation and threat as doors for the development are opened and foreign investment has been promoted in the country after the peace process.
