Lamjung, March 18, 2018: District Public Health Office, Lamjung (DPHO) is set to start telemedicine services at the District Hospital and health centers in Lamjung district.

A trial run of the service was conducted at the Lamjung District Community Hospital on March 16, 018, during which physicians from the  National Centre for Rheumatic Diseases provided training to the district-based health workers on the treatment of rheumatic diseases.

The telemedicine service is initiated with an aim to benefit the people and to train the health workers in the district.

Keshav Chapagain, Chief of DPHO said that senior doctors from Kathmandu would provide the telemedicine services through the District Hospital and other health centers in the district.

Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical health care from a distance. It has been used to overcome distance barriers and to improve access to medical services that would often not be consistently available in distant rural communities. It is also used to save lives in critical care and emergency situations.
