National campaign to end drug shortage

Bajura, June 10, 2016: The Medication for Nepal Campaign, in coordination with various people, organisations and companies, has distributed medicines worth more than Rs 4 million for free in the districts facing medicine shortage for long.

According to a campaigner Sumana Shrestha, the medicines were handed over to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, Patan Hospital in Lalitpur and various other health facilities in Kavre, Dolakha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Nawalparasi, Bara, Baitadi, Bajura, Doti, Darchula, Achham, Jajarkot and Humla district for free.

Commenting on the Campaign, Jajarkot District Health Office Section Officer Divas Sapkota said, “It was a huge relief for us as we were facing the medicine shortage. The Campaign provided us medicines worth Rs 400,000 and it has made the treatment easier.”

“The medicines provided by the government are insufficient. We go through medicine crunch a lot and this has been a huge relief,” informed Nawalparasi District Hospital.

According to the campaigners, the medicines were collected on the basis of the data provided by District Health Offices and distributed accordingly.

Many non-resident Nepalis from Australia, USA and UK among others as well as prominent doctors of the nation including Dr Bhagawan Koirala, Dr Govinda KC, Dr Jyoti Kunwar and Dr Arjun Karki had supported the campaign.
