National conference of dalit rights activists kicks off

Kathmandu,8 Dec 2014: The National Conference of Dalit Rights Activists has begun here from today. The conference is organised in the context of the International Human Rights Day on December 10.

The three-day conference is organised by the Dalit Sewa Sangh. Leaders of different political parties, rights activists and stakeholders, actively working for the rights of Dalit communities, are participating in the conference.

Discussions would be held on a working paper regarding economic, social and cultural situation of Dalit communities of the country in the conference.

On the occasion, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Anupraj Sharma, said that all the rights of indigenous nationalities, Dalit, women and oppressed communities should be included in the constitution.

Likewise, Central committee member of the Nepali Congress, Jeevan Pariyar, stressed on the need of guaranteeing economic, social and political rights of Dalit communities at first to take the entire country towards the path of development.

National Dalit Commission Chairman Man Bahadur Nepali said that the country itself should launch the awareness-oriented national campaign to end the caste-based discrimination as such incidents are increasing in the country despite the existence of the Racial Discrimination and Untouchability (Crime and Punishment) Act.

Similarly, Sangh Chairman Chakraman Bishwokarma said that indigenous nationalities, Dalit and oppressed communities should protest in an united manner to ensure their rights in the new constitution.
