National SDGs Summit 2019 Kicked Off in Kathmandu


National SDGs Summit 2019 & 4th SDGs Anniversary celebration kicked off in Kathmandu on 25th September in the presence of 300+ participants from a diverse background. National Planning Commission (NPC), UNDP, KOICA Nepal, Nepal SDGs Forum, development partners and all the civil society organizations came together to celebrate the 4th SDGs anniversary.

The Chief Guest of the program was Mr. Pushparaj Kandel, Vice-Chair of NPC. He said that the summit has brought all the stakeholders together that will help to put the joint effort in implementing SDGs in Nepal.

Resident Representative, UNDP Nepal, Ms. Ayshanie Labe asked the stakeholders to come with plans rather than speeches. “We need segregated data to ensure that no one is left behind. Ensuring transparency and accountability is another major tool that supports the achievement of 2030 agenda”, she stated.

The special guest of the program, the Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea in Nepal, Mr. Young Sik Park said Nepal has made good progress in health, education and other social sectors, which have increased and will continue to increase the standard of living for normal Nepali people, compared to 20-30 years ago. “Nepal needs investment in hydropower infrastructure, roads, agriculture, sewage system, recycling plants and so on. Basic infrastructure in Nepal needs to be built in order to sustain economic development for the long-term. About 60% of the resources necessary for this infrastructure development will have to come from the private sector” Mr. Young Sik stated.

President of NGO Federation of Nepal, Mr. Jitram Lama said- a collaboration among the stakeholders and accelerating localization of SDGs is the key to success of 2030 agenda. “We urge all the stakeholders to join the hands in this global movement to make this world a better place to live for all and we have started with this partnership”, he concluded.
