On September 27, Youth Initiative in collaboration with Restless Development Nepal organized the first ever National Youth Symposium in Nepal. Dedicated to address the Sustainable Development Goals(SDG) as put forward by the UNDP as the Global Goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity; the event was highly beneficial for aspiring youth in the development sector to understand the dynamics of SDGs and other priority sectors related to youths.

The programme was divided into two major components: Social Forum and Political Forum. In social forum, there were paper presentations on 5 various themes; whereas, in the political forum, the recommendations made by the paper presenters combined with that of commentators and participants in the programme were presented to the key political and social leaders. The symposium also had panel discussions and a number of entertaining activities including photo booths, karaoke and SDGs gallery walk among others to make the event more youth-friendly.

Youths from across 30 different districts in the nation, including those in the capital participated in the programme. Giving remarks about the symposium, Rebati Ram Poudel, one of the main organizers, expressed his happiness to see Nepali youths being conscious regarding the SDGs. “As this event is our first milestone, we will continue such programmes in the years to come. This is a cycle of learning and sharing about our achievements. The participants, especially those from outside of the valley will learn and share it among youths in their own locality. Soon, we will spread from national to regional and zonal level, until the youths in all the VDCs are aware about the sustainable development goals,” he added.
