9 December,2014:Â In an interview to Mirror (July 19) Nawazuddin Siddiqui had dismissed rumours of him replacing Farhan Akhtar in Rahul Dholakia’s Raees and subsequent reports that he had rejected the film, as nothing but “pure fiction”. He had laughed off the rumours saying,”Mujhe khud bhi nahin pata tha film kab mere paas aayee aur kab maine refuse kiya.” He insisted that he too had read the news in the papers but was never approached.
“Had I been, may be I would have accepted it,” he had said.
Now, Mirror has learnt that not only has Nawaz been approached to step in for Farhan’s role but he has also accepted the offer.
“Yes, it is Shah Rukh and Nawaz now. With the shooting pushed from December 2014 to February 2015, the dates clashed with Farhan’s Rock On 2 schedule,” informs the film’s producer, Ritesh Sidhwani.
Dismissing reports that the film has been shelved, Sidhwani insists that Raees will kick off in February and wrap up by June. “We will start constructing the set in Film City by December end. The heroine will be announced soon,” he added.
After getting a kick from ‘Devil’ Salman, Nawaz will undoubtedly get a career boost from taking on another Khan. He plays a sharp cop in Raees who takes on a local mafia head, played by SRK.
When asked if the film will release on Christmas 2015, along with Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone’s Tamaasha and Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone’s Bajirao Mastani, Sidhwani simply said that the date will be set depending on when Shah Rukh’s other film, Fan, releases.
