Kathmandu, Jan 23: The Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) are encouraged with the Constituent Assembly Chair’s statement that the next meeting scheduled for Sunday will take decisive step towards moving ahead the constitution drafting process.
They have welcomed the statement, while expressing the hope that a proposal regarding the formation of a questionnaire committee to deal with disputed issues of the constitution would be tabled in the next meeting.
Although today’s CA meeting kicked off three hours later than schedule, it was deferred until Sunday without entering to its agenda following the ongoing obstructions from members representing the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-centric parties. The meeting was supposed to allow Nepali Congress Chief Whip Chin Kaji Shrestha to table proposal for the formation of committee.
The alliance headed by UCPN (M) has been trying its best to prevent the CA from introducing the proposal.
During his exit from the CA meeting hall today, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said the CA Chair Subash Chandra Nembang’s statement that the matter in the CA agenda would get a conclusion in the next meeting is welcoming. We are looking forward to welcoming the day (January 25), he said.
Similarly, UML senior leader Jhalanath Khanal expressed his hope that the CA next meeting would approve the proposal, clearing off obstructions in the constitution-making. Meanwhile, both parties have directed their respective lawmakers to compulsorily attend the upcoming CA meeting summoned for 1:00 pm Sunday.
