Baitadi, November 19, 2015: The Nepal-India Jauljibi fair has kicked off since November 14. Jauljibi lies in India just across the border of Uku village in Darchula district. This historic fair is marked as the ‘goodwill fair’ since long.
The fair which used to see a large number of traders both from Nepal and India gather at Jauljibi has become a low-key affair this year as Nepal due to the border blockade imposed on Nepal by India.
This traditional fair is taken as an important means to harmonize the relations between the peoples at the border sides of Nepal and India where the peoples and traders from Jauljibi of India and Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Bajura and Jumla districts of Nepal participated, said a local Prem Chunara.
Chunara added that there was no much transaction in the fair this time as used to be in previous years due to the impact of border blockade where traders and locals were facing fuel crisis and other obstacles.
The fair is expected to harmonize the bilateral relations though the country was facing border blockade, said assistant chief district officer of Darchula district Bishwamitra Kuinkel.
The fair will continue till November 26.
