Nepal-Kora Cycling Challenge 8th Edition on 21st July

Kathmandu, July 18, 2018: The eighth edition of the biggest cycling event in Nepal-Kora cycling challenge is taking place in 21st July (Saturday). Kora is building a community for riders. It has been raising money for charity. This year, three causes have been selected for fund-raising by the Kora riders -Ladies’ Mountain League, Survivor Nepal and the Narayan Gopal Fund. The raised funds will support upliftment of women via adventure sports, provide incentives to earthquake resistant buildings, and support the family of Late National Champion Cyclist Narayan Gopal Maharjan.

This Challenge circumambulates the valley, clockwise, right at the edge of the valley, away from the hustle of the city, through small dirt trails passing by picturesque rural settings, raising money per km biked for a worthy cause. There isn’t any fee and has a fix date so it is easy for the riders to participate. Starting from Patan Durbar Square, over 2500 rider will congregate and participate in a mass ride of 50 kms for the regular riders, 75 kms for recreational riders who are a bit more serious, and 100 kms for serious riders. It also provides all participants with a medal at the end.

This ride is organised every year since 2011 by Social tour and Kathmandu Cycle City 2020, Cycle City Network Nepal.

From this edition, Pangro has come on in as event partner. The mass ride is widely supported by all the cycling community of Nepal, and this year, additional support is coming from Turkish Airlines, Photo Kathmandu, Himalayan Single Track, NCRR – Nepal Cyclists Ride to Rescue, Pancbike. Several other organisations and businesses are also considering supporting it.
