NEPAL SAYS: NEW CONSTITUTION BY JANUARY 22

Saptari, Aug. 17: “The country will get new constitution by January 22, 2015” says CPN (UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Talking to the journalists at a press meet in Rajbiraj, today, the former prime minister said that the political parties have been holding serious discussions for forging consensus in the contents of the new constitution and that the people would get new constitution with federalism within the slated time.

He said, “Basis for writing new constitution has been prepared. The nation would get constitution within the stipulated time if the political parties end the differences by then.”

All political parties have stressed on the need for writing the constitution by forging political consensus, he added. The constitution would be promulgated through due process if the efforts for forging consensus failed, the UML leader added.

Former Prime Minister Nepal was of the view that the election of President, Vice-president, Speaker and Deputy Speaker should be held after the promulgation of the constitution but right now political parties should be committed to writing new constitution.

On a different note, UML leader Nepal urged the government to expedite the rescue and relief distribution for the flood and landslide victims across the country.

During the press meet, Minister for Irrigation NP Saud said the government has allocated more budget to manage irrigation system and reconstruction this year.

Minister Saud said the government has allocated Rs 400 million budget against Rs 80 million in the last fiscal year expressing commitment to the immediate reinstatement of Koshi Canal, Chandra Canal, Kamala Irrigation Project and other projects.
