Nepal defeated Bahrain U23 3-0 in the final of Bangabandhu Gold Cup to bring home their first ever international title in 23 years.
Bimal Gharti Magar , Bishal Rai and Nawayug Shrestha scored a goal each for Nepal. The win fetched the champions a cash prize of US $50,000.
There were more celebrations for
Nepal as Bimal Gharti Magar was
adjudged the Man-of-the-match and Nawayug Shrestha was awarded as the Best Player of the Tournament. Shrestha ended the game with four goals, the highest scorer of the tournament.
Similarly, this is the first time any country will lowest FIFA rank among the participant had won the tournament and Nepal came into this tournament as 196th in FIFA ranking.
Nepal showed their best ever game in decade and attacking line looked more sharpen in this tournament. Nepal had hammered Maldives 4-1 in the semi final and continued their brilliant scoring form in final as well. Before, Nepal were goalless in 11 games and now Nepali team has managed to score 8 goals in previous 4 games with Nawayug scoring 4 goals, Bimal 2 goals and Bishal Rai 2 goals.
The All Nepal Football Asociation has already announced the cash prize of 500000 to each member while NSC will honor the team with 200000 each.
