Kathmandu, February 19, 2019: Nepal’s national women’s cricket team have registered their victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup Asia Region qualifier being played in Thailand.
The match saw Nepal register a 34-run win against Malaysia. Batting first, Nepal posted 126 runs on the board while Malaysia could only muster 92 runs.
Nepal’s opener Sita Ranmagar scored 42 runs for her side in her 40-ball innings. The opening pair of Ranamagar and Kajal Shrestha, who made 16 runs, put on a partnership of 46 runs to guide Nepal to a respectable score. Skipper Rubina Chhetri scored an unbeaten 33 runs off 25 balls.
During the Malaysian innings, Sita Magar and Karuna Bhandari claimed two wickets each. Malaysia Christian Bare scored 21 runs but it was not enough to challenge the Nepali side.
Nepal play their second match of the tournament against Thailand on Thursday. The winner of the tournament, which features China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, play the T20 Women’s World Cup progress to the 2019 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier and the 2020 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournaments.
This is the first match of the qualifier and first win for Nepal’s women cricket team in Thailand. Such effort makes the country proud.
