KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Six Nepali cricketers have been called up for a preliminary trial at Sydney Thunders, a Big Bash team of Australia. The Nepali players earned the opportunity through the initiative of Sydney-based Nepalese Cricket Association, Australia (NCAA).

Nepali players Rochak Bhatta, Nabin Gurung, Ashish Shrestha, Dipendra Neupane, Arjen Aryal and Ganesh Bikram DC have been called up for trial at Sydney Thunders, according to Niraj Shrestha, member of NCAA and former president of Chitwan District Cricket Association. The trial is set for November 26.

Sydney Thunders invited them for the trial after the Thunder Nation Cup held among teams of Nepalis living in Sydney this week. Namaste Laligurans Cricket Club won the tournament defeating Danfe XI in the final.

Rochak has already represented Nepal in ACC U-15 and U-17 tournaments. Rochak picked up seven wickets during the ACC U-17 Cup Elite held in Kathmandu in 2008, including four wickets in Nepal´s 28-run win over Hong Kong.

“Besides the large number of Nepalis living in Sydney, Sydney Thunders were impressed by the Nepali cricketers. This is a big thing for Nepali players and Nepalis living in Sydney,” added Shrestha.

“Nepali players living in Australia are catching the eyes of Australian teams with one after another success of Nepali cricket teams,” he said.
